Whether you’re newly married or going on year 20, every day should be wife appreciation day! However, having a specific date on the calendar gives wives an excellent excuse for some extra attention. And who doesn’t love to be shown appreciation?
National Wife Appreciation Day is the third Sunday of September, giving those lucky enough to have a wife another chance to show them how much they mean to everyone. Wives keep you grounded and centered, and encourage you to be your best self daily. The endless love and support of a wife is something special, so they deserve their day! Everyone desires appreciation differently. So how can you show your wife you appreciate them?
Understanding Your Wife’s Love Language
We all have our own love language in which we choose to give and receive love. Five love languages describe the ways in which we show our love. These were established in 1992 when author and pastor Gary Chapman wrote a book called “The 5 Love Languages” after noticing patterns in couples counseling. These love languages are:
Words of affirmation
Quality time
Physical touch
Acts of service
Receiving gifts
Every spouse must understand their partner’s love language so that you can communicate your love in ways that speak to each other’s hearts. This is especially true on National Wife Appreciation Day! Here are ways you can show your wife appreciation in each love language.
Words of Affirmation
This love language is about expressing affection through spoken words and verbal affirmation. If this is your wife’s primary love language, that means they enjoy uplifting encouragement, praise, and kind words. To show your wife affection this way, send them cute texts or write a love letter describing all the ways you care about them. You can easily make their day by telling them how much you love them and how much they mean to you. Easy!
Quality Time
If your wife’s love language is quality time, they want your complete and undivided attention. They feel the most loved when you stay present and focused during the time you spend together. Making eye contact and actively listening is an easy way to be present. Plan your wife’s favorite activity and do it with them, or recreate your first date. It shows you have always been present and want to spend the most time with them.
Physical Touch
This love language is all about physical affection. While intimacy is very much a part of this language, it does not always mean sexy time. You can show physical touch and affection through hugging, by holding their hand, or by slight touches here and there. If your wife has this as their primary love language, give them a massage at the end of the day, or snuggle up close to watch a movie. The simplicity of just being close to them has a lot of impact!
Acts of Service
Acts of service is a love language demonstrated by doing things for your partner without having to be asked. This can be anything from washing their car, doing the dishes, or simply running errands with them. For National Wife Appreciation Day, show your wife love by doing things for them like putting gas in their car, or vacuuming the living room. Check something off their to-do list for them!
Receiving Gifts
If your wife’s love language is receiving gifts, it means more than just getting them something lavish. Your wife appreciates the thoughtfulness and effort you put into picking out a gift just for them. For this love language, give your wife flowers, or get them something that you feel reminds you of them. Your wife will treasure your gift because they know you put time and effort into picking it out.
