It’s easy to get distracted by everyday things, but I feel like it is important to step out of the hectic norm every once in a while and check in with those you love regularly. Whether you’re worried about their well-being or simply just miss them, I feel like we should be reaching out and making a connection with someone in our lives regularly. It usually makes someone feel loved and cared about, especially if it is out of the blue. Below are some ways you can check in on those you love, whether friends, family members, or co-workers.
Ways to check-in
An in-person check-in is usually ideal, but if you cannot do so, calling is the next best thing, and then comes video chatting and messages. Utilize some of the messages below to check in with those around you.
Say “I know you are having a hard time, and I’m here if you want to talk.”
Say “Please let me know if I can help in any way.”
Send/give a gift that reminds you of them
Make it known that they’re not a bother and that you will go out of your way to help them, even if it’s just to be a listening ear.
Strike up a conversation with them and be sure to let them know that you’re listening by being mindful of your body language and putting away your phone/other distractions.
Request if they’re seeking support or answers, then respond accordingly.
Listen without judgement.
Follow up with what was discussed
Overall, just like you most likely would like a random text or call showing that the other person remembered you or cares about you, those around you would also like that same treatment. This is even more vital if you have family and friends that suffer from mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
